Running it, start to finish
- Gather real cash, real costs and six months of actual revenue.
- Put every section 3 decision date in the calendar before doing anything else.
- Track the section 5 indicators weekly.
What you get back
The output this produces, every time.
- Computes zero dates under three scenarios built from your actual trend, not your plan.
- Works backwards to the last date each lever can still be pulled — the number that actually governs.
- Names the leading indicators that tell you which scenario you are in, early enough to act.
Getting better results
Where this usually goes wrong, and how to avoid it.
- Use actual revenue history. not the forecast. Section 1 states which it used, and a plan-based base case is the single most common way runway planning goes wrong.
- Put the decision dates in your calendar. as events with reminders. They are the entire output and they are easy to notice too late.
- Be honest in expected-inflows. A 'probable' payment that has not been signed is not probable. Overstating this is how the downside case gets skipped.
