Here is what most people get wrong about a subscription. You think you are buying software. You are renting the right to reach your own data — and the rent goes up every time you add a person. Open source moves exactly two things. The data sits on hardware you own, and the source is readable, so you can change it. Free falls out of that. Free is the side effect, not the point.
