Claude Desktop, installed properly on Windows — download, install, sign in, and the one thing nobody tells you before you click "Code". In this video I install the Claude Desktop app from scratch and walk through the whole thing: where to download it from, the installer on both Windows and Mac, signing in with your Anthropic account, and a tour of the three tabs the app actually gives you — Chat, Cowork and Code. ⚠️ THE PART MOST VIDEOS SKIP — what's free and what isn't: The Claude Desktop app is free to download, and the Chat tab works on a free Claude account. The Code tab (Claude Code with a full graphical interface) and the Cowork tab (autonomous background agent) require a paid plan — Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. If you install the app, click Code and get an upgrade prompt, nothing is broken. That's the plan gate, and I show you exactly where it appears so it isn't a surprise. One genuinely good piece of news: the desktop app ships with Claude Code built in. You do NOT need to install Node.js, and you do NOT need to install the command-line tool separately. If the terminal was the thing stopping you, that barrier is gone.
