- Paraphrase when the value is information. It is shorter, clearer and does not interrupt your voice. Quote only when the wording or the authority matters.
- Look for the aside. The unprepared remark is usually more revealing than the answer the speaker had ready.
- Never trim a qualifier. Removing 'in some cases' turns a careful claim into an absolute one, and it is a serious misrepresentation even by accident.
